ABOUT THIS HUNT:
Three hour drive from the airport to camp. This was a baited hunt (meat scraps from the local butcher) with several bait sites. Getting the moose and elk herds under control. Had a nice supper the night before and a great breakfast in the morning. The morning started with a trip to a ground blind in a foot of snow. This is exactly like hunting whitetails only more concentrated. I knew I was going to have to sit and sit and potentially sit some more. I had my thermos of hot chocolate and laid all my gear out.
The ravens marked the bait site.

Still no tracks from the recent snow. It was getting so tedious so I did something I never do, I read a book.
It was minus 20 on day three and by lunchtime I had shed all my heavy clothing.
At 2 o'clock the ravens flew off and from 200 yards away I could see 4-5 wolves. I reached around to grab by 300 WSM and tried to set up on my shooting sticks. By the time I had turned around the pack was looking straight at me and already beginning to head back into the timber. I honestly thought that 2 1/2 days of patience was just blown in an instant but I was able to make out through the timber the wolves trying to sneak away. I saw my very small window of come together and I took my shot from 250 yards. I had an excellent aiming point and squeezed off a round. The gun recoil knocked me off slightly
