Roosevelt Elk, Black Tail Deer, Kaibab Mule Deer, Black Bear, Wild Boar, Tule Elk, Turkey
If you are looking for outstanding hunting or fishing opportunities or professional wildlife management and consulting, you may have hit paydirt. Many people first wonder what kind of hunting outfitter would have a name like “Multiple Use Managers”? The quickest answer to that common question is that MUM president and founder Wayne Long has always focused his attention on complete management of multiple resources on the land, including wildlife, range, timber, livestock grazing, etc., hence the “multiple use management” concept. Both Wayne and his son Gordon are professionally schooled and trained wildlife biologists. We believe that the potential on private lands is the logical future of wildlife conservation in the United States and abroad. We are best known for our highly successful hunting operations, such as Santa Rosa Island and Dye Creek Preserve. We are very proud of our forty-year history of providing trophy-class experiences and animals, but we are just as excited about the management work we conduct to insure quality on a sustainable basis. Since Wayne first started hunting and consulting landowners, we have worked for well over a hundred landowners across the Western U.S. and as far away as the Bahamas and New Zealand
Bob’s Comments:
Bottom Line? You can’t go wrong with this stunning area on Santa Rosa Island and when you add in the expertise of Wayne and Gordie Long you’re absolutely good to go! I highly recommend MUM Wildlife!

Turkey, Quail and Sporting Clays
Watch the Pros. Since the days of the first plantations, American sportsmen have known the true joys of pursuing bob-white quail. The likes of Washington and Jefferson reveled at the sight of pointing dogs lacing back and forth across expansive fields, and the suspense of walking into the feathered whirlwind of a rising covey. Sights, Sensations, Camaraderie. Unlike our forefathers, Quail Creek Plantation now uses horsepower to comfortably traverse thousands of acres of habitat sculpted with grand oak hammocks and slash pine forests. Our guides will lead you into exciting coveys at your pace, making sure there’s plenty of time to enjoy the sights, sensations and camaraderie that have made fine quail hunting so special, for so long. Creature Comforts. There is more to Quail Creek Plantation than just quail hunting. As our guest, you have the option of casting a line for a gargantuan bass in a private lake or testing your skills on our sporting clays course. And we’ll insist you take a few minutes to sit in a front porch chair or wander beneath the ancient oaks and watch the Spanish moss dance in the breeze. Above all else, we want you to enjoy a special place in old Florida where life is still as good as it was meant to be. Enjoy the Experience. Past the concrete and the crowds is a special place where Florida still exists as nature meant for it to be. It is a landscape unchanged since the days of de Leon and Osceloa, where gnarled cypress rises up from virgin swamps and the uplands are carpeted with lush native grasses.
Bob’s Comments:
What a place!! When I first saw the facility and the hunting grounds I thought to myself “Are you kidding me?!” Joined by my good friend Jerry Martin and mixed in with great hospitality and a great guide, I don’t recall ever having so much fun calling in a turkey and a fine Osceola at that! High marks go to Quail Creek!

Elk, Moose, Mule Deer, Black Bear
Coffeepot High Country Outfitters, Inc. is owned and operated by Kelley and Monte Sanburg, of Montrose, Colorado. Kelley (Field) and Monte married in 1984. Natives of Montrose, they have lived their entire lives farming, running livestock and hunting the western slope high country of Colorado. They are both fourth generation family members in the Uncompahgre Valley (where Montrose is located). The outfitting business has been a stronghold for the family for three generations and making “Coffeepot” a reality has been the goal for many years. It has taken a lot of hard work and dedication to put the business together, but with patience and persistence the high standards and goals of Coffeepot Outfitters have come to surface. There is a wide range of services they offer between big game hunting, fishing and outdoor adventures. Each package is designed with the consumer’s safety and satisfaction in mind. They are steadfast in their ideals of providing services to the best of their abilities and being recognized in our profession as a top-notch outfit. Kelley graduated from Colorado State University in 1984 with a B.S. in Agricultural Business, at which she returned home to raise horses, cattle and ranch in Montrose. Monte has worked in the mining, ranching, and construction fields since high school. He has been traveling about the United State as a superintendent for Pinnacle Construction out of Omaha, Nebraska for the past several years. The primary focus for them both is however, the guide and outfitting business. Monte has been guiding for elk and mule deer since he was a young boy and knows how to set people up for a successful hunt in the country that he has hunted himself for many years. Kelley handles the business end, the horses and packing in and out of remote camps. They have a team of guides, wranglers, cooks and helpers that make this whole thing work very well. They pride themselves on honesty and integrity. References are available upon request.

This was an Excalibur Crossbow hunt in Quebec. The weather was hot and humid. The second evening of the hunt, Bob and I heard the beavers slapping and a red squirl left the bail. In a few minutes, the bear came in. He was very causious. It took him 45 or more minutes before I had a fatal shot. Bob filmed me and was my coach. I had a great time.

Caribou, Moose, Sheep, Grizzly Bear
Traditionally, caribou and sheep season begin Aug. 10th and run to Sept. 20th. Grizzly Bear season begins Aug. 10th and runs to June 10th of the following year for the majority of the areas we hunt. Moose season in most areas runs Aug. 24th thru Aug. 28th for residents only and then Sept. 8th thru Sept. 17th for both residents and non-resident hunters. We transport your party either to ridge-tops, river-bottoms or lakes with Piper Super Cubs. We operate four of these aircraft during hunting season and can usually move your party at one time. Due to baggage compartment weight limits on the Super Cubs, your gear cannot weigh more than 50# Total. This is an aircraft limit and cannot be exceeded! The limit includes all gear (backpack, sleeping bags, tent, fanny packs, salt, etc.) Fanny packs cannot be worn as they interfere with the seat belt system in the aircraft. These weight limits enable us to put you in areas where other aircraft cannot land and limits competition from other hunters. Once we drop your party in an area we do not place other hunters in that area until after your departure. We will not spot game during the flight to a hunting area, but transport you to an area where other hunters have had success and which, to best of our knowledge, supports the appropriate game. Landing areas are usually at or above timberline, so you can expect good visibility for hunting. You should have binoculars and, in the case of sheep hunting, a spotting scope. Your hunting success should be more a function of good spotting rather than walking long distances. Additional items to take would be light rain gear, leather boots, wool pants, a light weight mountain tent (self supporting tents only please, as wall tents will not be transported), sleeping bag and pad, and a small multi-fuel stove for cooking or possibly heating your tent during late season hunts. Temperatures can be expected to run from 75 degrees to the low teens with the extremes most likely towards the beginning and end of the season.

Unquestionably, summer pack trips in the wilderness bring together family and the real things in life. You can go nowhere in America and find the genuine sights, smells and sounds, as you can in our wilderness areas. Jason has always told clients of all sorts to forget about the amusement parks this year and experience something real — “GO ON A PACK TRIP!” From the time Jason and his brother Lee were five and six, their dad Larry was taking them into the backcountry. On two to three week summer adventures they would ride mules more than 100 miles during the course of the trip. WCOA encourages you to do the same for your family and friends. We’ve taken countless groups into the heart of the Selway, from families of all ages to fishing buddies to groups of couples to corporate getaways. One thing holds true for each party, they all left a piece of their heart in THEIR MOUNTAINS. The Selway offers countless river, stream, & alpine lake fishing opportunities along the way. Just the same, many wilderness adventure seekers don’t want to focus on fishing. For these people we have breathtaking views at every corner and all the thrills and challenges of wilderness travel. Come let us share with you, your wilderness, the Selway!
